shingle house

For months now my head has been filled with floor plans and the new build. Most evenings we discuss ideas, sketch and research. We don’t want a grand home, nothing big and brash. We want a house that means something to us, simple in design, a little rustic but beautifully shaped, a house that works for us as a family,  that reflects who we are.

I think that I’ve spoken before about Dungeness and Prospect Cottage, the house that film maker Derek Jarman and his partner Keith used to own. We love that house. Actually, it really does look like a little New Zealand cottage. It’s always been one of our biggest inspirations and a special place to visit. We’d love something like that but updated, brought into the 21st century. It seems that NORD, an architectual practise in Scotland, have done exactly that.

Built on the same stretch of Dungeness shingle, this building takes my breath away. It’s seeming simplicity (but really not) is perfect to me.

Very you…. better go hunting for some land 🙂

  3. That is beautiful – I love the simplicity of the gable forms and the contrast between the black external walls and the clean white interiors. Lovely!

  4. This would be amazing in the Wairarapa countryside! Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
