after the fair is over

What a fabulous time we had on Saturday at the Craft 2.0 Fair. The weather was appalling but still they came. Hoards of them. Wonderful shoppers eager to purchase some handmade goodness.

Sue did a marvelous job of organizing the fair. It was a total pleasure to be included. Her etsy shop is well worth a visit.

I met some wonderful women (sellers and shoppers) and hope to be a part of the next fair in October. I’ll keep you posted.

Pauline left a comment on the last post asking if the photos used in the pendents were special.

My Dad used to help out a lady in his village by cutting her lawn each week. She’d decided to have a huge clear-out and placed everything she no longer needed in her garage and told my Dad to help himself to whatever he wanted. Now in the UK I was an avid car booter. You know those people who turn up in a field somewhere at the crack of dawn on a Sunday morning ready to hunt out the bargains? Well, that was me that was!! So, the first thing my Dad did was to call me to tell me about the clearout so I thought I’d take a look. Whilst sorting through the goodies I stumbled across on old case that was filled to the brim with old letters, notes, receipts and photos, so of course, I had to rescue them. I know that the little boy in the hat, waving was to become the woman’s husband. In fact, there they both are together, perhaps on holiday? Their first perhaps? Their honeymoon? I’m not so sure where the photo is top left. It’s stunning scenery. Do you write on the back of photos? I’m definitely going to start doing that. I intend to go through my personal collection and date them, adding peoples names and where they were taken just in case someone someday stumbles across my memorables in years to come.

Until next time…

  1. the stall looks lovely, and I’ve just noticed, the doily that you’ve sewn to the dark cushion, I have the one in the exact same design pinned to my noticed board!
I love the pendant feature the boy waving, so sweet.
Your little package should be winging it’s way to you as we speak, so let me know if it gets to you in one piece, I have a distrust of royal mail, whats the postal system like in NZ?
We have Danny’s Aunt and cousin who live in Wainuiomata coming over to the uk to stay with us in august so I’m sure it will be renewing the new zealand bug that my husband seems to be suffering from!

  2. I love your pendants with the photos in them. šŸ˜‰

  3. your stall looks so lovely- i used to be a bootsaler too but I have so many basketful of junk that I need to do one- and I’m just too lazy!

  4. Your pendants are beautiful. Your booth looks gorgeous, wish I could have been there!

  5. Your stall did look gorgeous and it was lovely to meet you at the fair.

  6. Your stall looks fantastic! I wish I could have seen it in person. Well done. That must have been a lot of hard work. I always wonder about the stories behind old photographs… Have a good Monday!!

  7. Your stall was great and so did you, very styly šŸ™‚ I love the sory about the box of goodies.

  8. i’m glad to read that you had such a wonderful time. congrats!
    the booth looks fabulous šŸ™‚

  9. I love your pendants! I like how you are using the photos- sometimes it’s a big enough ask to care for all of one’s own photos and memories, I would feel overwhelmed by being the caretaker for someone else’s also!

  10. You are such a lovely friend. Thanks so much for your lovely comment. It brought a tear to my eye. I do work really hard looking after the kids and it was great to see someone appreciated it!!! Off to do crafting for a whole week next week (cannot believe my luck!) with Julie Arkell overseeing. We are not doing paper mache though so I am not sure what we will be up to – it is very much down to us. One thing I am going to do is embroidery some lovely sepia or black and white photos of the children. How do you do it? Do you stick the photo in a little embroidery frame? How many strands of silk do you tend to use? The problem I have is I need a week off before to pack all my sewing things and to think about what I want to do! Not going to happen! Oli is getting married on Saturday – finally!!!! ha ha! Love you too & miss you! Your stall looked fab. Glad to hear it went well – not surprising as you are very talented.
    Love Emma xxxxx

  11. Glad to hear that you had a good time at the craft fair, your stall looked full of wonderful treasures. I love the story behind your beautiful pendants. I too was addicted to car boot sales when we were in the UK, I miss them… I know that the NZ version of this is the garage sale, but I have never been to one..X

  12. I love the old photos you made into pendants. Very ingenius! I’ve got so many beautiful old photos that I should try to do something with as well… what to do, what to do!!

  13. What a great story! I asked because the woman looks so much like my great auntie but of course she was born here. I love the pendants and I think the embroidery you’ve added is a beautiful idea. I have lots of old family photos and it’s given me some ideas as to what I can do with them… Christmas presents and such.

  14. I saw your wonderful stall, but I didn’t get a chance to say hello. Maybe at the next fair in October?
I really like the story about the old photos. And the pendants are lovely!
